ROBERT ANTONIUS

VOLTAIRE

Rob Voltaire is an Arab-Canadian rock musician from Edmonton, Alberta, whose debut solo work was born from the wreckage of his former life.

In 2024, following the simultaneous collapse of his marriage and his 20-year career in the music industry, Voltaire entered what he describes as two years of intensive psychological rehabilitation.

On the advice of his psychologist, he began writing songs to process what was surfacing - grief, identity loss, rage, cultural displacement, compassion - and brought a new song every week to unpack. For a long time, his therapist was his only audience; turns out that's exactly what his work needed.

The result is five albums worth of material that defies easy categorization, ranging from Glam Rock to Extreme Metal, Piano Ballads to Orchestral Synthwave, and even Goth Broadway Bardic Folk Tales... because the emotional tone never stayed in one place for long, and unpacking thirty years of trauma is rarely easy.

Tracing the sequence in which issues surfaced, Voltaire writes many of his songs in pairs: the dark version born of pain, and the beautiful version born into the light.

Voltaire makes music for those who are stuck: the kid who doesn't quite fit in, or the person who feels cursed, discarded, or too broken to move forward. He's been there - longer than most people know - and he's here to say one thing:

It gets better.

Unflinching, often darkly funny, and ultimately hopeful... This is what it sounds like to rebuild from the inside out.
